According to LocateADoc.com, a website designed to help consumers find a great physican, Botox treatments accounted for nearly 3 million cosmetic procedures in 2007 and continues to be one of the most popular choices available for reducing wrinkles and giving skin a youthful appearance.

For over 10 years, Botox has been growing in popularity and has become an alternative to the more invasive facelifts of the past.  Botox is used to fill out crowsfeet, reduce forehead furrows and help to remove all those happy induced smile lines.

In general, Botox can cost between $350 to $1,300 per Botox treatment and that can be for each area of the face that receives the injections.  Botox is applied via a syringe and the more skilled the injector, the better the results.

However, one of the biggest dangers with Botox is not the drain on your wallet or the potential documented side effects.  The most critical concern surround Botox is the rise in bargain botox.

The need to halt aging has become a national craze in the United States.  Yet not everyone can pop over to see their plastics doc for several thousands of dollars of injections to slow down their wrinkle formations.

As a result, the bargain basement botox options usually are diluted with excess saline, in the best of cases.  In other cases, either the consumers are not receiving any Botox at all or they may be receiving dangerous substances such as was the case with Priscilla Presley who was the victim of fraudulent plastic injectibles.

When Botox is heavily diluted with saline solutions, the only real damage is to your checkbook.  The effect of less concentrated forms of Botox are very short-lived.  Reports of bargain Botox users indicate that the effects of the Botox, which paralyzes the patient's muscles around their eyes, between eyebrows and throughout the forehead, is extremely short lived.  Some patients have reported that they saved money on their injections but saw the benefits lasting only 2-3 weeks.

Even more dangerous is the other possible complications that could occur from less than pure Botox injections.

High quality concentrations of Botox are designed to last several months, not just a few weeks.   Which goes back to the old saying of you get what you pay for.  The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAP) encourages Botox consumers to avoid low-priced Botox or plastic injectible services that sound too good to be true.

How do you prevent being the victim of Bargain Basement Botox?  Ask your doctor to provide a written explanation of exactly how many units of Botox they are injecting into each area of your face.

The following amounts are generally recommended:

1.  10-12 units for frown lines
2.  6-10 units for crows feet - for each section of crows feet
3.  A minimum of 15 units for the forehead unless it is heavily lined

Always do your research.  Make sure that your Botox doc is legitimate and check for any complaints filled with the Better Business Bureau or the local medical society.

When you see advertisements for "cheap Botox" or "Bargain Botox" be very careful.

Remember, do your research and make sure you are going to  reputable doctor for your Botox injections.
