There's nothing worse than blisters on any part of your feet. Not only do they cause the ouchies, they look horrible and will distract from other fun activities at hand. Even worse, blisters prevent participation in healthy activities like hiking or working out. Blisters are caused by constant rubbing or friction on the feet which causes friction burns. How to prevent blisters on any part of your feet? Start with prevention. Prevent blisters from getting a foothold by applying antiperspirant to your feet for several nights before going hiking or other activities which stresses your feet. Why antiperspirant? It contains aluminum chloride which keeps feet bone dry which prevents rubbing. Blisters most often form when feet get hot, sticky, sweat drenched or are covered by incorrectly fitting socks and/or shoes. Other options? Peaches & Boo Boo's Save My Feet Blister Elixir Shoe gurus and fashionistas swear by this fab cream which was specifically invented to prevent blisters and irritation. The product lasts for up toe eight hours and is greaseless and stainless. Peaches & Boo Boo's blister blocker (available in the Marketplace at HairBoutique.com) works under hosiery. Apply to your feet where your shoes could potentially cause a blister or irritation. Other foot blister blocking tips include: 1. Prevention is key. Be sure to buy shoes that fit properly and don't pinch or rub. It is also good to buy shoes that breathe. 2. Stop feet from sliding forward in your shoes which can cause toe scrunching, overhang and the development of blisters and calluses. Foot Petal's Tip Toes ($4.95 - $18.95) help prevent calluses from forming, protects bones and tissues and cushiong the ball of the feet. 3. Foot Petal's Heavenly Heelz ($4.95 - $18.95) will help prevent blisters on heels by prevent heels from slipping in and out of shoes. 4. Foot Petal's Amazing Arches ($6.95) help support arches and give shoes a "perfect fit". Of course they also help to prevent calluses from forming. 5. For a complete anti-blister protection pack check out the Sole Solutionz. Proven preventive measures include: 1. Opt for socks and other foot coverings made from silk, not cotton. Silk allows feet to glide without rubbing and creating irritation and is most compatible with skin. 2. If you don't want to go with silk then go with manmade acrylic socks which are considered best preventing blisters for sports activities. 3. Always wear socks that fit feet properly. Shapeless socks can encourage the development of blisters. 4. Powder pack your feet. Apply a good foot powder, baby powder or cornstarch to keep feet dry and less prone to sweating and rubbning. 5. Pad new shoes, if you have not had time to break them in (30 minutes per day max is recommended) with moleskin custom cut to fit your feet. 6. Use insole and heal lift (see Foot Petal's options above). 7. Change socks and foot coverings when they get wet or at least once a day. More if appropriate. Other notes: For special walking events like hiking or running, proper hydration is essential. Some athelets recommend using old fashioned Vaseline slathered on areas of the feet most prone to blistering. Others recommend double socking for extra cushion worn in a slightly larger shoe. Professional runners also have a secret bag of blister blocking tricks including wrapping their feet with various types of duct tape, special hydration techniques. If you are considering major events for your feet (running or other sports - research these option fully before trying them out).
